Description:
Maxfields, Inc. is a phenomenal story of country roots, family decisions, generations of hard work, and growing up in the business. Tony and Shari Maxfield, brother and sister team, own and operate Maxfields Restaurant, Maxfields Inn, and The Depot super-sized convenience store/gas station. Born two years apart, Tony and Shari literally grew up in the family hospitality business of Maxfields Restaurant. They were washing dishes when big enough to stand on stools, and cooking and waiting on guests as soon as they were old enough. When it was time for them to take over the business from their parents, Glen and Carol Maxfield, they were ready with their boundless energy, expert business sense, an eye for detail, and remarkable vision that would take them and their establishment into the 21st century.
Since 1959, the Maxfield family has taken the tiny country establishement called Wyman Tavern without a kitchen and fashioned it into a 500-seat casual, fine dining restaurant known as Mid-Michigans dining legend. Tony and Shari, like their mother and father before them, realized that their restaurants country location was not typical for a major fine-dining establishment, so it would need a solid reputation of excellent food, service, and atmosphere to draw guests to them and bring them back again and again. Today, Maxfields 50-plus item soup and salad table, a legend in its own right, offers salads that are made fresh daily in-house. The luncheon buffet and variety of evening buffets continue to draw guests from all over the country. Maxfields menu items, superbly prepared by a professional crew, are sure to delight the most discerning guests. Maxfields puts the WOW in every dining experience.
With the restaurant well established, Tony and Shari, contemplated expansion of the Maxfield mission of service:
Through the devotion of a caring and knowledgeable staff, the Maxfield's family tradition of unsurpassed hospitality will exceed our guests expectations.
With careful research, study and planning, Tony and Shari, designed and built the Super 8 of Edmore just off the busy M-46 highway and just minutes from the restaurant. With Tonys leadership and Sharis drive, this beautiful 50-room motel took just 5 months from groundbreaking to Grand Opening. With the same vision and mission as the restaurant, Super 8 of Edmore earned the Pride of Super 8 Award in just 5 months for stellar inspections. What is even more impressive is that Super 8 of Edmore was #1 in the state of Michigan and #1 in the nation among Super 8s for the first quarter of 2002 for the site-type and location. However, in March of 2003, Tony and Shari made the decision to drop the Super 8 franchise and take the motel independent. Now called Maxfields Inn guests experience the same great rooms, amenities, warm and friendly staff, and stellar service that is the hallmark of the Maxfield family.
Maxfields Inn offers guests an indoor pool, whirlpool, steam rooms, fitness center, arcade, meeting room, Jacuzzi and family suites, king and queen beds, and much, much more. Local community members purchase Super Shape memberships giving them access to the facilities on a regular basis. The complimentary Deluxe Continental Breakfast is one of a kind, with breads, cinnamon rolls, and muffins made fresh daily with cereal, waffles, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, milk, coffee and tea to round out the fare. Maxfields Inn puts the WOW in motel service.
In August 2001, a small family owned party store and gas station went up for sale just in front of the Inn. Tony and Shari saw this as an opportunity to continue to expand on their mission to serve guests and their community. Just as they had done in the past, they threw themselves into learning everything they could about this side of the hospitality business, and The Depot opened under the Maxfield banner in October 2001. The Depot is aptly named for the Heartland Trail that runs between it and Maxfields Inn. (The Heartland Trail is the old railway system that is being converted to a recreational trail throughout Michigan.) Within the confines of the building they purchased, they offered 1500 more items than previously available, along with a line of take-out items from the restaurant. Maxfields famous soups, chicken, sandwiches, salads, and pizza were all conveniently available at The Depot. Maxfields puts the WOW in convenience store service.
However, for Tony and Shari the vision was not over. They envisioned a 24-hour super Depot providing products and services for motel guests, community members, and those just passing through. Lets see if you can see what Tony and Shari envisioned. Picture this: An 8000 square foot, 2-story building built in the same architectural style as Maxfields Inn. The first floor is an expansive convenience store with a walk-in Refrigerator Car for beverages, a 50-seat Dining Car eatery in the fast-casual style, and a deli. The second floor has ample office space. Just west of the new Depot, a state-of-the-art soft-touch drive-through car wash that is a totally glassed-in structure. It is a beautiful light show when in operation. That is Tony and Sharis vision, and it became a reality when the doors opened in September of 2002. The Dining Car has grown far beyond the expectations of the original plans. From a variety of homemade breads, the crew makes outstanding hot and cold sub sandwiches, and pizzas made with only fresh ingredients, homemade sauces and crusts. Hot breakfast, lunch and dinner are available to dine in or take out, along with Maxfields salads and a great deli. Maxfields homemade soups and salads are also available. Hand-dipped ice creams make stopping in and just looking around a real treat. Wait til you see the floor!!!! Tony and Shari have a program that saves all guests money. Just sign up for the Frequent Fueler Program and save $.02 on every gallon of gas purchased---no strings attached; no other purchase necessary. Weather permitting guests can enjoy a snack or meal out on the patio. Maxfields really put the WOW in convenience store service this time.
Many, many guests dining at the restaurant often reminisce about the years they have been coming to eat at Maxfields. Many of them share that they can remember when it was just a little bar and how they could order simple basket meals and play a game of pool. A down-home country tavern where friends gather, relax and visit---what a concept! Yep, you got it!!! Tony and Shari decided to renovate the lower level of the restaurant into a pub called Friends Downunder. It is like going back to their roots at the same time creating a feel and atmosphere for the 21st century. Great food, great fun, great Friends. On Friday and Saturday evenings we have all-you-can-eat buffets for just $9.99. Talk about returning to our tavern roots! It is a jamming place at night. WOW, what an idea!
Who would have ever dreamed that what began as a family purchase and the renaming of a tiny tavern to Maxfields would one day establish a reputation for unsurpassed hospitality in restaurants, motels, and convenience stores? Tony and Shari Maxfield did. They put the WOW in hospitality services in Mid-Michigan.
You are cordially invited to dine in our restaurant, rest and relax at our inn, shop in our convenience store, and gather with friends in our pub. Our friendly and professional staff is eager to make your Maxfield experience an exceptional one. Your WOW is waiting.
